Over the years many Miamians have ended up on the business end of a policeman’s baton or Taser. And whether you’re innocent or guilty, right or wrong, simply the thought of that moment can sting a little. Actually it just might give you the urge to punch a hole through a glazed doughnut. But since your unwarranted confidence in your physical combat skills are what got you into that mess to begin with, we have something else in mind. Today is the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Northwest District’s Open House Family Event, also known as your chance to see some of Miami’s finest in a different light.

You might call it trust-building, but a slew of the city’s mounted patrol officers, sergeants, K-9 officers, and other boys and girls in blue will be on hand for a day of fun at the Northwest District Station. “This event is for the community to learn what the MDPD, local government, and private business have to offer our community,” said Keira Velez-Hudson, community service officer. And what the MDPD will have to offer you is a bounce house, guided tours, K-9 police demos, child ID services, and free food, drink, and music. 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Sat., June 30, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
