If the last time you ate at a buffet was in 1996 when you and your meemaw hit the Sizzler for platefuls of sliced meat, it might be time to revisit the idea of copious amounts of food laid out for your belly’s pleasure. And Thursday’s Share Our Strength Taste of the Nation Miami is the perfect place to mix gluttony with charity, because all proceeds from this culinary cornucopia will benefit local organizations that fight childhood hunger. Beginning at 7 p.m., signature dishes from dozens of Miami’s top restos will adorn the tables at the Grand Ballroom at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, filling the air with the smell of cuisine just begging you to indulge. If steak tartare from the Grill on the Alley; a surf-and-turf of seared diver scallops, short ribs, and boniato hash from Chef Allen’s; and pork carnitas from the Ritz’s very own Cantina Beach don’t move you, the wines, cocktails, and desserts will definitely put you in the plate-piling mood. General admission is $100 in advance, $125 at the door.
