Life is all about the what-ifs. What if we had married that person back in high school? What if we had gone to a different college? What if we had accepted that job in Seattle? Who knows how our lives might have changed and, in the process, if we would have ended up better or worse?
That crucial question forms the nucleus of What If’s Revealed, a short play penned by Israel Garcia and starring Dawn A.A. Plummer and Samuel Umoh. In it, we find Karla and Carlos, sharing their secrets and cozying up for what appears to be some sort of romantic encounter. Bittersweet humor and a particular poignancy accompany this setup, one awash in reflection and contemplation. Fifteen minutes may seem like precious time to come to any sort of conclusion, but there may be a lesson here for anyone whose life choices are still in a state of flux.
What If’s Revealed will be performed every 15 minutes at Centro Cultural Español (1490 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) from 8 to 11 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays from September 3 through October 2. Tickets cost $5. Visit to cinema360p.com.
