South Florida’s all-encompassing car culture makes it nearly impossible to go for strolls on the (virtually empty) sidewalks without looking like a member of some vagrant, dystopian underclass. That’s why ArtWalk in downtown Hollywood is so important. It gives you a chance to stretch those limbs called legs that motorized vehicles have rendered vestigial. You can promenade along tree-lined sidewalks, stopping at art galleries and looking over the shoulders of painters while jazz saxophones, violins, and, yes, harps play a heavenly orchestral accompaniment in the background. Of course, you’ll have to drive to get there, but the first two hours of parking at the 19th or 20th Avenue municipal garages are free during this Saturday’s ArtWalk. It runs the third Saturday of every month and begins at the Comfort Zone Studio & Spa.

Sat., July 16, 7 p.m., 2011
