Miami is notorious for a certain brand of in-your-face films banged out in a day, whether they’re set in a bus or a foreclosed condo. Fortunately, the Miami Film Race encourages flicks with more developed plots. In this national filmmaking competition, participants have 24 hours to write, shoot, edit, and score an original film no longer than four minutes. Teams are emailed a theme (e.g., revenge, bad advice, spare change) and a surprise element (could be anything from a toothbrush to a slap) the night before. (FYI: Last year, the theme was “opposites,” and the surprise element was an action, tightening a belt.) The 24-hour clock begins this Friday at 10 p.m., with entries due Saturday night.
All film entries will screen Wednesday at Bill Cosford Cinema. Miami entries will be judged against each other for local awards before competing in the national competition for cash prizes.
