Ted Nugent’s bad-boy persona is stamped with a sneer and swagger, a combination that defines the distance between him and other rockers who came of age in the late ’60s and early ’70s. The difference is clear not only in his unapologetic disdain for drugs and his unabashed enthusiasm for guns, but also in his fierce allegiance to the more conservative ends of the political spectrum.
At age 61, Nugent shows no sign of slowing, still dishing his signature brand of grit and defiance. “I have not mellowed,” the Motor City Madman insisted in a recent interview with New Times. “In fact, I have to have my horns trimmed three times a week these days, instead of only two a few years back.” No wonder he has dubbed his latest jaunt Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead. Or that the tour convened only after Ted took time to indulge in a favorite personal pastime, specifically hunting in the wilds.
