Damn R. Kelly. While he wasn’t busy making videotapes of distasteful sexual acts and his ridiculously long urban soap opera “Trapped in the Closet,” Kells recorded “Down Low,” a steamy ballad with a phrase that has worked its way into the cultural lexicon. Thanks in part to Terry McMillan’s explosive divorce scandal, the supposed “down-low” phenomenon has become a hot-button issue. At this year’s Miami Beach Bruthaz weekend retreat, men all shades of fine will be celebrating gay pride, enjoying fabulous dinners, hosting seminars, and, yes, discussing with J.L. King, author of On the Down Low, the issue of same-gender loving and infidelity. Expect some light to be shed on the shady trend at his panel discussion and book-signing event today at 11:00 at The Hotel. Admission costs $50 and includes lunch. After the serious issues are addressed, hot dudes can get down at the Night Cap afterparty at Club Boi, 726 NW 79th St., Miami. Out and proud rapper Trudog will perform at 1:00 a.m. Visit www.miamibeachbruthaz.com.
