Ever since author JL King released On the Down Low: A Journey into the Lives of ‘Straight’ Black Men Who Sleep with Men in 2004, the term has – ahem — switched teams and now refers to a different type of covert operation – men who live a predominately straight lifestyle, but also enjoy taking a walk on the gay side. As King put it, “Senator Craig got caught in the bathroom with his pants down, that’s down low behavior…Senator McGreevey, that’s down-low behavior.”
In case you’re still confused, tonight is opening night for the King–endorsed musical The Truth (About the Down Low), which will put the story into a form that anyone can understand. The play runs until September 16 at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $32.50. Call 800-432-SEAT or visit www.ticketmaster.com. —Raina McLeod
