Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Most of us don’t have the funds to buy anything at Art Basel. But there is one event where you might be able to purchase an original piece and have a few cocktails: the third annual Masters’ Mystery Art Show at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach. More than 1500 original postcards created by actual artists (and some A-list celebrities) will be on display. Here’s the best part: The postcards sell for $50 each, and all proceeds go to Florida International University’s Master of Fine Arts program, so you can put some art on your walls while supporting starving artists.
This year’s participating celeb-artists include Whoopi Goldberg, Rachael Ray, Andy Garcia, Quincy Jones, Miami Ink dude Ami James, South Beach Diet guy Dr. Arthur Agatston, Alejandro Sanz, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, and Madonna and her children Lourdes and Rocco. Tonight’s opening reception features a special drink — three vodka shots, a caviar-stuffed olive, sliced chili pepper, and sweet cherries. You call that art?
