Are dub-tango experiments like Gotan Project and Bajofondo your kind of thing? Then the sounds Argentine bassist Federico Aubele spins will be music to your ears. His chilled-out combination of downtempo hooks and classic tango pieces like “Malena” can be heard tonight at 9:00 at the Marlin (1200 Collins Ave., Miami Beach), courtesy of the Rhythm Foundation. Aubele’s life changed in the last year when he decided to send his demo to his heroes, the Washington, D.C-based duo Thievery Corporation. Not only did they invite him to join their touring band, but now they’re releasing his solo album on their label, ESL Music. Gran Hotel Buenos Aires shows Aubele finding his own balance by using the proven Thievery-inspired ways of fusing tango, dub, and reggae music for a local yet global vibe. Tickets cost $10.
