The trials of Miami singles looking to mingle are evident on countless Reddit posts and in the existence of meetup organizations like We Met in Miami. But there may be hope for all you Lonely Hearts out there.

A recent WalletHub analysis ranked Miami in the top 10 percent of cities for singles, comparing our region to more than 182 U.S. cities across 35 indicators to determine how dating-friendly they were. The ranking considered the share of each city’s population that is single, the number of online dating opportunities, and the average price of a two-person meal

Are conditions for singles looking up? Just a year and a half ago, the data aggregation site Spokeo listed Florida dead last for finding love, adding to a list of other recent lowlights, such as Miami’s ranking as one of the vainest cities in America and Florida‘s recognition as the national capital for fraud. But hey, we all contain multitudes, right?

Miami placed No. 11 on the list of single-friendly cities, behind Atlanta, Georgia; Las Vegas, Nevada; Tampa, Florida; Seattle, Washington; and Denver, Colorado in the top five. Rounding out the bottom five were Hialeah, Florida; Yonkers, New York; Pearl City, Hawaii; and Brownsville, Texas. (Sidenote: Can we please leave Hialeah alone?)

According to Chip Lupo, analyst for WalletHub, “The already difficult process of finding the perfect partner can be made even tougher when cities lack the conditions necessary to make dating successful. The best cities for singles have large, gender-balanced single populations, along with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor, daytime and nighttime activities. They also have reasonable prices for dating activities or high average incomes to help ease the sting of inflation.”

You might note we aren’t doing so well on that last metric — Miami ranked low in affordability (174 of 182). But as anyone who’s been to our best clubs, beaches, or parks can affirm, Miami ranks high for fun and recreational opportunities (fourth overall), and in the top 25 percent for dating opportunities (No. 43).

Still, numbers don’t always tell the whole story. Locals often lament about how Miami singles are reluctant to commit, frequently ghost prospects, or are purely interested in transactional relationships.
