Uniqlo, the Japanese clothing brand known for its affordable basics, is finally coming to Miami.

In late January, the popular retail giant revealed it would open a handful of stores across the United States, including in Texas, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Miami. According to a statement from the retailer, South Florida will get its first-ever Uniqlo stores — one at 530 Lincoln Rd. in Miami Beach and another at 19501 Biscayne Blvd., inside Aventura Mall, where it will take over the former Urban Outfitters storefront. The latter will reportedly be a two-level store.

Exact opening dates have not yet been announced, but both stores are expected to debut sometime this fall. A Uniqlo spokesperson did not respond to emailed questions from New Times seeking more information about the timeline.

Bringing Japan to Miami

Founded in Japan, Uniqlo is best known for its high-quality, minimalist, logoless casual wear. The company is a subsidiary of Fast Retailing, whose founder and CEO, Japanese billionaire Tadashi Yanai, is considered the nation’s richest person.

“The colors are exactly right and it’s inexpensive, but you feel like you’re not necessarily exploiting a seven-year-old in Bangladesh to get it,” Tariro Makoni, who writes the newsletter Trademarked, told the New Yorker. “Uniqlo is kind of like Everlane without the moral superiority and H&M without the ickiness.”

Uniqlo has reportedly become the world’s third-largest apparel manufacturer and retailer, trailing only H&M and Inditex, the parent company of Zara. The company’s annual report states that its “the ultimate goal is to become the best-loved, No. 1 brand among customers worldwide.”

The company operates more than 2,500 stores worldwide, including more than 700 in Japan and thousands across Australia, India, Europe, China, and Southeast Asia.

In recent years, Uniqlo has steadily expanded its presence across the U.S., boasting nearly 80 stores across the country in states including California, New York, and New Jersey. The company has announced plans to “significantly deepen its U.S. retail footprint” in 2026, which also marks the 20th anniversary of its initial expansion into America.
