We’re bored with roaming the Earth on foot, but until the wings we ordered from SkyMall come in, we’re content with watching the limber members of the Animate Objects Physical Theater coast through the air like King James. Acrobats, stilt dancers, and aerialists will occupy the space above your head at Flamingo Park, so take a Journey to Atlantis with the high-flying troupe at this Saturday’s Art in the Parks — your favorite source for cultural/free/outdoor goodness.
“All of the characters of the journey are characters you’d find underwater,” says AOPT’s artistic director, Ileigh Reynolds. “We have the Seahorse Sisters on trapeze, Jilly the Jellyfish performing on the bungee, a tidal wave of stilt walkers that do acrobatics, a mermaid in a hammock, ten children as the starfish on a triple trapeze, and King Poseidon, who goes through the whole journey on stilts and ends the show performing on aerial fabrics.” The internationally recognized group will take you under the sea, but all you’ll need for the trip is a blanket to lie on the grass.
