$7,500

As the city begins its inevitable descent into seawater, there’s no time like the present to become an environmental activist. Miami needs more realists and fewer dunce-capped deniers (ahem, Rick Scott).

Luckily, the Tropical Audubon Society is here to help. It’s leading an interactive educational experience designed to shape tomorrow’s Captain Planets.

The two-day Environmental Leadership Workshop will cover local conservation issues, wildlife monitoring, lobbying how-tos, social media and marketing, fundraising, and lots of other important topics budding activists need to understand.

Plus, participants can get some firsthand environmental immersion, with a bird walk, outdoor yoga, and a biking field trip to Shark Valley. Better get involved now before your living room looks like the Matheson Hammock atoll.
The workshop runs this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Florida International University’s Graham Center (11200 SW Eighth St., Miami). Tickets cost $55 for general admission and $35 for students. Scholarships are also available. Visit 2014elw.eventbrite.com.

Sat., Oct. 11, 7 a.m.; Sun., Oct. 12, 7 a.m., 2014
