Anyone bewitched by the fiery passion of flamenco can get his or her gypsy on during an intensive series of workshops by Timo Lozano. Lozano is considered the “King of Bulerías” for his mastery of one of the most popular and dramatic dance forms. Presented by Clarita Filgueiras and her Flamenco Puro Dance Company, Lozano will be teaching bulerías and giving lessons on playing the cajón, a modern percussive instrument. Classes will be offered at the Ballet Academy of Miami Dance Center today through June 9 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Lozano has performed with some of the best-known flamenco troupes in Spain and the United States. He also scripted, choreographed, and acted in the movie Alma Gitana; appeared in the film Flamenco Women; and has taught at his school, Amor de Dios, in Madrid for the past ten years. “He is especially good with making beginners feel comfortable with a style that can be difficult technically,” Filgueiras says. Registration costs $200. Call 786-282-8810, or visit www.claritafilgueiras.com.
