Norman Bel Geddes is not exactly a household name, but he probably should be. His work — a mix of art and architecture — put a unique spin on what the future would look like in a time of boundless possibility for the United States.
While much has changed since Geddes’ heyday in the 1920s, it’s still important to remember and learn from the man who the New York Times once called “the Leonardo da Vinci of the 20th century.” The Wolfsonian — FIU (1001 Washington Ave., Miami Beach) is displaying Geddes’ work until September 28 on its seventh floor. The exhibition is part of a traveling tour organized by academics at the University of Texas at Austin called “I Have Seen the Future.”
