Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
There are tons of improv sketch comedy groups scattered across the nation, and most of them are filled with hacks who are more annoying than funny. The Groundlings are certainly not among that set. Based in Los Angeles and boasting alum such as Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman, Lisa Kudrow, and Paul Reubens (whose Pee-Wee Herman was born during Groundlings sketches), the troupe has been touring the country performing long-form improv since 1974. Cast members have consistently vaulted to superstardom after working with the group, so chances are pretty good that a star in the making will be stoking laughs right before your eyes.
Split your sides with the Groundlings, Mod 27, Just the Funny, and more at the 2008 Miami Improv Festival, taking place at Just the Funny Theater Friday and Saturday. Performances begin at 8 p.m. Single performance tickets range from $10 to $25, and festival passes cost $60.
