Lionfish are nasty creatures that are wreaking havoc in the Great Bahamas Bank and around South Florida’s waters. An invasive species, the fish are unwanted venomous predators that eat many smaller fish, disrupting the traditional food chain. You can help fight the Lionfish onslaught by attending the Lionfish Bash kickoff at Shake-A-Leg Miami (2620 S. Bayshore Dr., Coconut Grove). It’s a sendoff party for the fourth-annual Lionfish Bash, a family-friendly spearfishing tournament that aims to lower the lionfish population. The tourney also raises money for the Woody Foundation, a Miami-based group that aids in the recovery of spinal cord injuries.
