Indie film. Indie art. Indie fashion. Indie-ana Jones. Ah yes, one of these things is not like the others. We’re all about celebrating the efforts of up-and-coming artists making a name for themselves without funding from The Man. We like it even better when the artists are flying the 305 flag and making locals proud. We’ve got everything we’re looking for at Friday’s Alerta Miami Indie Showcase, takin’ over White Room. Four of Miami’s hottest Latin bands will be showing off new tunes, so you might want to slip on your dancing shoes and booty-shakin’ pants.
The headlining band, Soniko (fronted by Miami New Times’ assistant art director, Alex Izaguirre; nice moonlighting, dude!), is emerging from the studio to debut tracks from its new album. Artsy electro-rock group Minimal will unveil songs from its upcoming second album, and favorites Nimencia and Afrobeta round out the local acts. Kansas-based band Making Movies will be making a special appearance to show the Magic City the might of wheat-powered rock and roll. The only thing we love more than anything indie is anything free, and this concert is both. Sweet. Happy hour is 6 to 8 p.m.; music is 8 to midnight.
