In the history of product tie-ins, there probably has never been a match that made marketing execs cream themselves more thoroughly than Pop-Tarts’ sponsorship of the American Idol Season 6 live tour. Yes, Pop-Tarts. In case you forgot, those are frosted, high-fructose-injected cookies masquerading as healthful breakfast food.
Frankly it’s just too easy – even for us – to riff on the whole premise of this event, so instead we’ll focus on the five reasons you should go see Pop -Tarts Presents American Idols Live! tonight: (1) Your kids want to go, and they’re likely to enter an adolescent fit of rage if you prevent them from attending. (2) What else are you going to do with that “I’m a Sanjaya Fanjaya” T-shirt? (3) You’re very close to proving your theory that contestant Chris Sligh is actually Hurley from Lost. (4) There’s the off chance you’ll be invited backstage to get completely plastered with Paula Abdul. (5) You might actually get some nostalgic satisfaction out of hearing smiley post-teens belt out classic tracks from the great American songbook. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. at the BankAtlantic Center.
