In television and movies, the list of celebrity switcheroos due to death, retirement, or just being too damn famous to hobnob with the little people is long and tragic. Enter Mike Epps‘s Day-Day, Ice Cube’s handpicked replacement for Chris Tucker’s Smokey in the Friday series. Tucker was too busy making fun of Asians, singing the Beach Boys, and becoming a born-again Christian to make a sequel about hood gentrification. So Cube found Epps and all of his fedora and bowling shirt glory.
These days, Epps is a freelance comedian, running around with everyone from Ice Cube to Bow Wow, Cedric the Entertainer, and Martin Lawrence. Every time you see him, you might picture Chris Tucker’s face, but Epps’s voice is way less irritating, and he never wore anything like that crazy getup in The Fifth Element.
