Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Will Scorsese win best director, and if he does, will he pluck his eyebrows? Can Penelope Cruz overpower Helen Mirren for best actress? Anything can happen when South Florida’s longest-running improv troupe parodies Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. Laughing Gas presents its third annual Academy Aweirds show at the Main Street Playhouse. The event pokes fun at popular cinema while delivering a hilarious night of audience-inspired improvisations balanced with sketch comedy.
In honor of the night, Laughing Gas will reward all Oscars. If your name is Oscar (unless you’re a grouch), you can see the show for free. Don’t forget to thank the Academy. The spooftastic yukfest hits the stage tonight at 11:00 p.m., and – unlike at some other comedy shows — there is no age restriction or drink minimum.
