Raise your hand if you remember watching Savion Glover grow up on Sesame Street. Congratulations! You’re rapidly approaching 30. The always-talented tap dancer starred on the seminal children’s television program for five seasons, honing his footwork alongside the likes of Gina, Grover, and Telly Monster back in the early Nineties. From the minute he tapped his way across Mr. Hooper’s store, fans knew he was destined for greatness. Glover has gone on to outdo even his earliest admirers’ expectations.
The dreadlocked dancer left the muppets behind to star in Spike Lee’s controversial and poignant Bamboozled, but his star has always shone brightest on Broadway, in award-winning shows like Bring in ´Da Noise, Bring in ´Da Funk. Currently, he can be seen dancing onscreen in the motion-picture form of Mumble the penguin, star of the animated movie Happy Feet. But tonight, fans are in for a real treat when Savion Glover takes the stage at the Carnival Center. His smash-hit show Classical Savion unites hip-hop energy with orchestral music, and world-class, make-you-wanna-jump-out-of-your-seat tap skills, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the heyday of Glover’s idol, the late, great Gregory Hines.
