In the vile cesspool that is South Florida sports, there stands a flotilla of hope we call the Florida Panthers. It’s hard to tell if head coach and GM Jacques Martin will be buying or selling as the free agent deadline approaches. On one hand, a run at the playoffs and even a division title is plausible (even with a .500 record), but on the other hand, surviving a first-round playoff series doesn’t seem likely, given the Cats’ inconsistency. Adding insult to injury, the Montreal Canadiens skate into town for a “home on the road” game.
It must be truly embarrassing to play a home game when your opponent’s fans outnumber yours three to one and “Let’s go, Habs” is the only chant echoing throughout the BankAtlantic Center. Call 954-835-8000, or visit www.ticketmaster.com to make the home team feel at home and send the Canadiens packing, whistling Dixie between broken teeth.
