The Miami Heat finished last season with a victory party at LIV and a ticker-tape parade on Biscayne Boulevard. They were crowned NBA champs for a second time in franchise history and won the ESPN Espy award for best damn team in all of sports.
But had there been an award for the tenth-best NBA squad in the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons would’ve been the team doing all the celebrating.
After struggling early during the shortened 2012 season, the Pistons bounced back midway through and posted a winning record in February. Unfortunately for them, it turned out to be the only winning month of the season.
The team ended up with a 25-41 record, finishing near the middle of the Eastern Conference standings, sandwiched between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors.
This year, of course, the Pistons are hoping to make a run for the playoffs. To do so, however, they’ll have to battle the Heat several times throughout the regular season and once during the preseason.
