THUR 10/9
Every year when National Depression Screening Day rolls around, your interest is piqued but you just can’t seem to get off your ass and get to one of their free and anonymous screenings. It’s not that you’re lazy, maybe just … depressed? Depression does spread its ominous cloud on about 19 million Americans every year. Could you be one of them? You’ll be in the dark forever if you don’t finally avail yourself of this 12-year-old program, created with support from the American Psychiatric Association. Listen to a lecture, perform a self-assessment, and have a private chat with a mental health professional to find out whether you’re suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress, or generalized anxiety disorder. Call 800-520-6373 or see www.mentalhealthscreening.org for details. — By Nina Korman

Long Day’s Journey
Although she may not be well known to the masses, artist Joan Jonas has been pioneering video and performance art since the 1960s. She’s blurred the lines between sculpture, theater, and dance with a smattering of all kinds of artistic disciplines interwoven in her body of work. Tonight she returns to South Florida to perform her conceptual time piece Crossed Waves: After a Long Train Ride, which parallels her journey to Miami. The performance begins at 8:00 at the Moore Space, 4040 NE 2nd Ave., second floor. Admission is free. Call 305-438-1163. — By Juan Carlos Rodriguez
