Maybe it’s just us, but whenever we visit historic mansions, we imagine the place full of aristocratic ghosts that come out at night, eager to exact revenge on the fanny-pack-wearing tourists who stomp the grounds during the day. South Florida’s Renaissance-style landmark, Vizcaya, seems perfect for such a fantasy. It’s fitting, then, that the villa, which usually hosts dignitaries, popes, and queens, has been trading its smiley greeters for French maids and zombie butlers at its annual Halloween Bash the past 24 years. This Saturday, don your most bizarre attire to compete in the costume contest, trick-or-treat for booze at the open bar, rattle your bones on the dance floor, or, like a big weirdo, just wander the halls and gardens while holding a paranormal-activity antenna. The doors creak open at 8 p.m. Presale tickets cost $100 for members and $125 for nonmembers.

Sat., Oct. 30, 8 p.m., 2010
