$10,000

When you reach the half-century mark (if you haven’t done so already), will you say you have accomplished all you had hoped to? The 50-year-old digital media artist pioneer Laurence Gartel thinks he has done a pretty good job of reaching his goals. “I pounded the pavement in the early Seventies … I showed my work to everybody, but nobody got it … but you’re not going to stop because people don’t get it,” the exuberant Gartel muses. “I’ve had a very rich life and have met many fantastic people. I’ve traveled to Australia, Russia, India, Europe, Canada, and will be headed to China this summer. It’s all been adventurous, and I have indeed lived life on my own terms.” Gartel — and technology — has come a long way since a time when he had to photograph the video screen in order to capture digital images. Celebrate with the artist at the Gartel @ 50 Birthday Bash tonight from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at Social Miami at the Sagamore Hotel, 1671 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Call 305-491-9877, or e-mail gartelmuseum@yahoo.com to RSVP. Visit www.gartelmuseum.com to learn more about the artist.
