Showbol Miami 2014 matches soccer powerhouse Colombia against rival Venezuela in what could be the fútbol battle of the century. Well, not really. It’s more like the battle of the slightly bloated soccer legends of two South American countries that produce as many soccer superstars as any other country yet have won as many FIFA World Cup Championships as Luxembourg and Tibet. Zero.
Showbol Miami throws a giant twist into this friendly, because it’ll be an indoor soccer match held at the BankUnited Center (1245 Dauer Dr., Coral Gables) on the University of Miami campus Friday. Though there is a relatively easy joke to be made that featured star Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama made the request of an indoor pitch to ensure he wouldn’t have to run the length of a full-size soccer field, indoor soccer is actually a much more intense version of its outdoor predecessor. Other stars to play include Faustino Asprillas, Víctor Aristizábal, Rafael Dudamel, Giovanni Savarese, and Luis Vera. The game begins at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $25 to $155.
