The layperson might know Brazil for nuts, waxes, and Carnival, but Brazil is a country with a banana hammock full of A-listers, starlets, and cutting-edge cinema auteurs. If you don’t believe us, take your uncultured bumbum to the 15th annual Brazilian Film Festival of Miami, beginning Friday and running through August 27. The festival will screen 25 award-winning features and 15 short films, including everything from documentaries created from film archives owned by the Cuban government to sexual coming-of-age stories.
It all starts with free opening screenings Friday of The Payback and Time of Fear at the Colony Theatre and DZI Croquettes at the Miami Beach Cinematheque (1130 Washington Ave., Miami Beach) at 9 p.m.
