It’s Halloween (cue the creaky doors and ghastly moans), so why not share some culture with the kids and take them to a symphony?
Now hold on — contain your gasps. Sitting through a classical recital is terrifying enough for most adults, much less squirming children. Consider A Spooky Symphony a more fun alternative. This Sunday from 4 to 5:30 p.m., A Spooky Symphony is a free opportunity to both learn and be entertained.
Presented by the Greater Miami Youth Symphony and the Alhambra Orchestra, this child-friendly concert will have the youngsters screaming with delight upon hearing the themes from Harry Potter, Spider-Man, and Star Wars. Adults may be creeped out by offerings such as “Night on Bald Mountain,” Symphonie Fantastique, and a touch of Totentanz, but only in a good way, of course.
Ultimately, though, there’s nothing scary about a new experience, especially when it’s accompanied by a multimedia presentation and kids in costume, or when the setting is the beautiful and historic Olympia Theater at Gusman Center (174 E. Flagler St., Miami). Who knows? You might even spy the Phantom of the Opera lurking in the wings. Call 305-667-4069 for all the deathly details.
