The Wynwood arts crawl has gotten smarter, but not because Mensa members have invaded the hood. Instead, the New Times’ own Scott Cunningham has established the University of Wynwood, an unpretentious seat of higher learning where creative types can discuss cultural projects over complimentary wine. Cunningham has enlisted curators, filmmakers, and other movers and shakers as part of his boho brain trust. Tonight UW will feature Miami curator Claire Breukel, who will lecture on public art. A quiz precedes each talk, with the winner snagging a nifty T-shirt from the school’s “Department of Ephemeral Objects.”
Upwind at O.H.W.O.W. at 8:00 p.m., Scott Campbell moves the ink from the pink into a gallery setting with “Make It Rain,” the first major solo presentation of tattoo-inspired works that celebrate his goose-bump aesthetic via sculptures, paintings, drawings, and photography.
For peeper-provoking homoerotic art, mosey down to Hardcore Art Contemporary Space for the Spanish Cultural Center’s debut of “Love Stories,” a selection of more than 50 works by artists such as Tom of Finland, Derek Jarman, and Ralf König.
