What do Lost in Translation, American Psycho, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High have in common? Women directed them. Chicas represent less than 7 percent of filmmakers, and yet they have directed some of the biggest hits. At the Women’s International Film & Arts Festival, this Friday through March 8, see what the other sex has to offer. With 80 different films hitting the silver screen, you’re bound to find something you like.
For starters, how about a tale of two con artist brothers whose final job takes them on a global adventure with a beautiful heiress and a sexy Japanese explosives expert? The Brothers Bloom doesn’t open in theaters until May, but you can get a sneak peek and a glimpse of Academy Award winners Rachel Weisz and Adrien Brody on the red carpet at 8 p.m. opening night at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. After the show, it’s the afterparty. Get your drink on with the stars for free at Karu & Y.
