Usually it’s Miami’s sports teams that make changes to personnel during the off-season. But this year, Miami’s arts organizations made some big moves too. Miami City Ballet, for instance, brought in hometown girl Lourdes Lopez to succeed company founder Edward Villella in the season that opened last month. And Florida Grand Opera, which opens its season this Saturday with Puccini’s La Bohème, is now under the guidance of new CEO Susan T. Danis.
Danis isn’t the only big name to help kick off the season. La Bohème also brings noted Mexican tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Mexican soprano Ailyn Pérez to the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). The opera itself, which inspired the Broadway musical Rent, is the story of young, artsy types living in Paris in the 1830s and the doomed love between its two leads.
