Free Events This Week in Miami: Comedy Fest, Boat Rides, and Gay Pride

Happy Monday, Miami! We can guess how many of you are feeling on this bright post-Easter day: You’re sluggish from ham consumption and ten too many chocolate bunnies. You feel guilt about said gluttony, guilt only made worse by that once-a-year church visit and the latest TV retelling of Christ’s crucifixion. 

Today is a new day, however, and you can shake off that shame and get right back to sinning and winning, starting with this collection of free fun. 

Monday

• Holocaust Remembrance Concert at FIU Urban Studios: The Amernet String Quartet members Michael Klotz and Jason Calloway with pianist Heather Coltman present works by Korngold, Zeitlin, Shul, Block, and more. 

Tuesday

• Charles Philippe Jean-Pierre at Haitian Heritage Museum: Don’t miss the last week to see the artist’s Neo and Abstract Expressionism show, “Haiti Contemporary- Les Jacmelien IV.”

Wednesday

• The Theory of Everything at SoundScape: Catch the Oscar-nominated love story of Stephen Hawking and Jane Wilde.
• Curator Walkthrough at ArtCenter: Join Ombretta Agró Andruff for a tour of “Attitudes in Latitudes: The Northern Wild Explores the Tropics,” highlighting local and Canadian artists’ connection to the landscape around them.  

Thursday

• Gay Pride Welcome Party at The Gaythering: Get free admission, happy hour prices, and mingle with all the newbies in town for the weekend festivities. 
• Comedy Records “The South Beach Album” at The Fillmore: Can’t afford to catch the headliners at the South Beach Comedy Festival? Mat Cat Theatre and Comedy Records presents a free live recording of Miami comedians’ stand up – hosted by New Times alum, Daniel Reskin.

• Kate MacDowell at Mindy Solomon Gallery: Attend the opening reception for the sculptural and installation-based artist’s solo show, “Completely Exposed,” which explores the human relationship with the animal kingdom.
