The Joffrey Ballet is widely credited as the best ballet company in the United States. It tours the world, performing both classical and modern works. Miami will get a taste of the troupe’s fabulousness this Friday and Saturday when it swings through town for two performances at the Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House.

Joffrey’s Miami program will feature several works. “Confetti” is a high-energy piece with a small selection of dancers performing challenging choreography. In the more serene “Valses Poéticos,” love letters are translated into dance to reflect a couple’s relationship. But the big-name performance is the Joffrey’s major new ballet, “Age of Innocence.” Edwaard Liang, who choreographed it, was inspired by Jane Austen, a woman who stood strong against society’s repression but did so with feminine grace. “Age of Innocence” has won rave reviews around the country, making it a must-see for any self-respecting dance aficionado.
