Let’s say you’ve got a friend who’s not fully sold on the whole “Nazis were dicks” thing. Chances are that you’re not going to get him to go to the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU (301 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). Unless, that is, you convince him to attend the Florida premiere of Stealing Klimt this Thursday night at 7:30 It’s a documentary about World War II refugee Maria Altmann, whose family had five Gustav Klimt paintings stolen by those Nazi dicks. Included in the five were Klimt’s two portraits of Altmann’s aunt, Adele Bloch-Bauer, the only model to be painted twice by Klimt. Altmann’s quest to get the paintings back spans decades and brings her up against the U.S. Supreme Court, the Bush administration, and, yeah, those Nazi dicks. Fans of large sums of money may already know part of this story: The first Adele Bloch-Bauer painting sold at auction for $135 million in 2006 and the second for $88 million. Tickets for the movie version are only ten bucks, or a five spot for museum members, which is way cheaper than buying the paintings and then Snapchatting them to your weird hypothetical friend. Speaking of whom, you should lure him early for the light nosh at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Bessie’s Bistro, where an exhibit of 21 posters that had been looted by the Nazis will be on display.
