There might not be lucky charms, but you may get a mug o’ green beer at the 28th annual St. Patrick’s Day Irish Festival at Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park. From noon until sunset, partake in the South Florida Emerald Society’s St. Paddy’s Day blowout, which will include entertainment, food, crafts, and even a pageant. Thasss right. (See, we’re already slurring from all that green beer.) Lasses from ages four to fourteen are encouraged to enter the Miss Colleen Pageant. If you ever wanted to see a leprechaun climb a rock or glide down a giant slide, then this is your event. Get in green (or pistachio or mint) and listen to musicians, including Peter Fuchs on keyboard, harpist Tricianne Garrihy, Irish balladeer Tipsy Laird, Michael O’Hara and the Breffni Dancers, and the St. Andrews Pipe Band. Leave Betty Crocker in the cupboard: Corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, soda bread, and whiskey cake are on the menu. Sprigs of clover are optional. Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
