If it’s Sunday and you find yourself in the semi-tony area of South Beach that the locals know as SoFi (South of Fifth Street), don’t feel compelled to have a $1,000 meal at Smith & Wollensky or drop a McDonald’s manager’s salary on bottle service at Privé. That’s right, you can have a damn good time at 423 Washington Ave. You’ll find tattoo designs splashed across the walls and bar-top, as well as — gasp — a stripper pole tucked in the corner and primed for some late-night bump ’n’ grind. Yeah, it’s Love Hate, and we’re assuming you already know the credentials: owned by the dudes who run Miami Ink, named best dance club by us, blah blah blah.
Sure, this place rocks every night of the week from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., but each Sunday it gets dope, as DJ SelfBorn spins old-school hip-hop, R&B, reggae, and dancehall from the Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties. It’s Classic Sundays, and if you want to boogie to the beats of the pioneers who made today’s hip-pop phenomenon possible, stop by. The vibe is cool and unpretentious, the drinks are hella strong, and you just might catch legend Special Ed getting his groove on with the common folks.
