Miami ain’t exactly California. When we visit the beaches on the West Coast, we discover an entirely different motivation behind a trip to the beach. People jog, sweat, and jump for the sheer joy of physical activity. On South Beach, the bodies are equally hot, but the activity is inappropriate for kids and covertly taking place under the crashing waves. You know who you are and, yes, we can all tell what you’re doing. Thankfully, we can enjoy a different, family-friendly seaside game today. The AVP Crocs Pro Beach Volleyball Tour is here! So when we tell our friends we went to check out the sweet volleyball action, we can hold our heads high and confirm that this time, the plastic spheres aren’t affixed to some lady’s chest.
The game will take place on the sand at Ocean Drive and 10th Street, Miami Beach. Some of the best pro beach volleyball players in the nation will leap and spike from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. today. One of them, Phil Dalhausser, is the studly half of the reigning Crocs Cup Men’s Championship team from 2007. Dalhausser is also vying to represent the United States in Olympic beach volleyball, so root for a rising star this weekend. Admission ranges from $10 to $20. Visit www.avp.com for a full weekend schedule.
