The beat of a drum is one of the most powerful intoxicants known to humankind. The crack of a snare can send you to war. The drop of the bass can make a dancefloor out of a line at the bank. This Sunday, get drunk on rhythm with DRUMline Live at the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall. The show is based on the same African American marching band tradition that spawned jazz, but it’s tempered by a modern love of soul, funk, hip-hop, and R&B. You’ll see classics performed alongside radio hits. Featuring a stellar cast of historical black college and university students, the highly choreographed show will feature an explosive force of beats, horns, shouts, steps, and athletic maneuvers. Brought to you by the technical adviser behind the movie Drumline, the 7 p.m. show is a real tribute to a purely American form of march music. It will have you on your feet, high-stepping, and beating on the chair in front of you till the whole room shakes.
