We know we should say no to drugs, and we tell youngsters to stay off of them, but the message has more meaning when it is coming from hip teens rather than not-so-cool moms. The Center for Emerging Arts, in partnership with Informed Families, received a grant to produce a musical for the Prevention Through the Arts program as a form of peer-to-peer alcohol and drug abuse prevention. Students from Miami Beach Senior High helped write and produce the work. They will use the stage to convey their personal experiences regarding the ill effects drugs have on social and physical well-being. The musical, 10 Year Reunion, Our Stories, tells tales of dashed hopes and missed opportunities — all because someone chose to smoke a little weed.
