Almost a third of all landfill waste comes from the threads in your closets. That’s right. You dress like trash. So be green and recycle your wardrobe to lower your negative impact on the planet. You’ll have the chance this weekend when the first annual South Florida Swap-o-Rama-Rama comes to Trash 2 Treasure. With clothing swaps and DIY workshops, this international event applies the reduce-reuse-recycle ethos to the ordinarily vapid world of fashion. Simply bring a bag of unwanted clothes, add them to the growing pile, and dig in for donated pieces. With foraged finds in hand, head to one of the sewing or silk-screening booths to refashion your swapped pieces. The swap starts at 11 a.m. this Saturday and Sunday and ends with a fashion show for all the newly altered duds.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
