Summer is nearly here and our tongues are already hanging out. Tell your furry buddies to bark, don’t fret. This weekend canines and their humans have a chance to batter up (no, we’re not talkin’ flapjacks) and show off at two fun events for our four-footed friends. Bring your slobbering sidekick to the Dolphin Stadium for Bark at the Park with the Florida Marlins. The Marlins take on the San Diego Padres at 7:05 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for grownups; kids and mutts get in for $6. Call 305-749-1815, or order online at www.humanesocietymiami.org. All dog ticket proceeds go to help Humane Society of Greater Miami/Adopt-A-Pet dogs.
Viewers of the movie Best in Show know the drill. Only the most perfecto pooches and their eccentric, obsessed owners compete in dog shows. You can see the local line-up of 1000 coiffed canines when the South Dade Kennel Club hosts the South Dade Dog Show from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Events include confirmation (which judges the dog’s structure and appearance, a.k.a. “the tail lift”), rally, obedience, and agility at the Fair and Expo Center (10901 SW 24th St., Miami) Admission is five dollars. Call 786-293-9745, or visit www.southdadekennelclub.org.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
