Typically only bipeds are allowed to stroll the beautiful grounds of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, but this year the historic gates will open for the first Dog Day at Fairchild. Because what pooch doesn’t love frolicking in big, open green spaces?

The 83 acres of lush landscape feature a rain forest and the kind of shady groves that should turn on the explorer instinct of any curious hound. This special four-legged-friend fun day includes tours of the garden aboard the doggy bus, dog massages, pet-friendly vendors, lectures by folks from local pet rescue organizations, as well as demonstrations in CPR, agility, and obedience. Fido is welcome to sniff the flowers, but you can’t just show up with a panting beast on a leash — you must pre-register your dog by calling 305-663-8091. Have your rabies tag and vet information ready. The canine celebration runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As regular visitors, we advise you to set aside at least two hours to enjoy and explore the garden. A percent of your $20 admission will go to local animal shelters.
