At Gallery Diet, “Mayami Son Machin” is a group show organized by Guatemala City’s Proyectos Ultravioleta, exploring stereotypes associated with Latin American identity refracted through the Magic City’s prism of glitz and glam. The provocative exhibit, named for Gloria Estefan’s back-up band, riffs on our city’s exoticism, overinflated machismo, and stereotypical, caricature-like concepts of female identity.
