The post-internet age has coined a lot of weird lingo. It’s affected every aspect of our lives. Nothing could be so pervasive without also irrevocably changing the artistic process, no matter the medium.
Particularly in music, so-called bedroom producers have gone from queer experimental outliers to main-stage headlining acts. You don’t need a fancy, expensive recording studio to make magic, and there’s still much to be discovered underground.
Sweat Records (5505 NE Second Ave., Miami) is pushing some of these homebody producers out of their rooms and into the light with its sporadic concert series irl:url, whose third installment hits the beloved record store this Saturday.
“Irl:url is an event that is heavily influenced by the internet and its cyberculture,” organizer Nick Padilla says in his mission statement. “It is a gathering that brings together a wide variety of artists and fans that have been born into this new age of http musicianship, and strives to entertain the idea of collaboration and optimism.”
Irl:url v3.0 will feature performances by TYNJYN, Distant Static, and Kroft Mansion.
