At times it seems like Miami is a sparkling young city, birthed fully formed from the cracked skull of a billionaire real-estate developer. But the Magic City has a long and fascinating history, one that spans well beyond the newest high-rise or the latest expressway expansion. HistoryMiami wants to share the city’s story with you during its Downtown Miami Archaeology & Architecture Tour. Tour guides will lead you along the confluence of the Miami River and Biscayne Bay while filling you in on the sad story of the Tequesta, Miami’s original inhabitants. The tour continues from the early pioneers to settlers and present-day Miami. The walk ends at a major archaeological find, the Miami Circle. With Miami Heritage Month wrapping up in December, there’s no better time than to learn about this city. Tours depart from HistoryMiami (101 W. Flagler St., Miami) between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets cost $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Call 305-375-5792 or email citytours@historymiami.org.
