Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Whatever you do, don’t call Gabri Christa one-dimensional. She’s a filmmaker, a choreographer, a student of cultures, as well as a native of Curaçao and an alumna of numerous dance and film festivals across the globe. Now, Christa is coming to Miami for a unique one-night workshop and screenings for Tigertail Productions’ Talk Talk Talk Dance Dance Dance, at Wynwood’s alt-performance space Inkub8 (2021 NW First Pl., Miami). Beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, the choreographer will talk about dance, particularly dance in film, and screen some of her own works, which have been jury winners from Japan to L.A. and from Amsterdam to New York. Christa is a dancer intrigued by motion, but she’s also an explorer — one of her more intriguing film series is called Another Building, in which she examines historical architecture and its relationship to the culture. For instance, using music and movement, she sets a piece in a synagogue in Suriname and in the ruins of a settlement of Amazonian Jews. Really. Plus the whole evening costs only 5 bucks.
