Everyone loves tough guys in ten-gallon hats and juicy hot dogs snuggled inside hunks of deep-fried cornbread. But even 2,200-pound Brahma bulls think clowns are creepy. So head to this weekend’s 61st annual Homestead Championship Rodeo at the Doc DeMilly Rodeo Arena at Harris Field for the cowpokes and corndogs, but beware the freaks with painted faces.
Running this Friday through Sunday, the rodeo will host seven championship contests: bareback and saddle bronco riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, cowgirls’ barrel racing, and bull riding. Then, as a free bonus, Sunday’s 11 a.m. Rodeo Parade will bring floats, marching bands, horse units, the rodeo queen, and, um, clowns to downtown Homestead. So, we repeat: Beware the freaks with painted faces.
Fri., Jan. 29, 8 p.m.; Sat., Jan. 30, 2 p.m.; Sun., Jan. 31, 2 p.m., 2010
